A partir de 2005, de modo intermitente, desenhei e fotografei as cercas e vedações de segurança erguidas nas ruas do Porto, ao longo dos meus percursos diários. Havia algo de militar nestas arquitecturas descartáveis, um sentido ambivalente de protecção e obstáculo, e ao mesmo tempo a fragilidade das estruturas dissipativas que se reorganizam a si próprias de forma irregular, como uma estratégia de acomodação ao espaço público.
Com base nestes desenhos e fotografias fiz variantes destas mesmas estruturas no meio do estúdio (é o mesmo impulso que orienta a construção de dioramas nos Museus de História Natural: posse e deslocamento) e usei-as como modelo de Sinonímia, uma série de desenhos e pinturas em curso.
Since 2005, in an intermittently way, I have been drawing and photographing the safety fences raised in the streets of Porto, along my usual pathways. There is something military in these disposable architectures, a sense of protection and obstacle, and at the same time the fragility of dissipative structures reorganizing themselves in an irregular way, as a strategy of accommodation to a public space.
Based on some of these drawings and photographs I reproduced these same structures in the middle of the studio (it’s the same impulse that drives the construction of dioramas in the Museums of Natural History: possession and displacement) and used them as models for Synonymy, an ongoing series of drawing and paintings.
